Dr. Andrew Bender

Dr. Andrew Bender
Dr. Bender received his Ph.D. in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience from Wayne State University where his dissertation work used MRI neuroimaging to study longitudinal changes in cerebral white matter and memory in healthy aging. His postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development included training in longitudinal data modeling and population neuroimaging and with the Berlin Aging Study-II. Dr. Bender has made multiple contributions to neurocognitive aging research, including seminal findings on age-related declines in associative memory, and the modifying role of genetic, physiological, and cognitive factors on brain and cognitive aging. Dr. Bender’s current work focuses on multi-modal neuroimaging of brain microstructure as potential markers of dementia risk and resilience. He has served as a Co-Investigator on the Neuroimaging Core of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and collaborator with the Nevada Exploratory Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. His work is funded by the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences and by an Emergent Clinician-Scientist Career Award from the Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute.
